November is American Diabetes Month
"Knowledge is Key in the Battle Against Diabetes" Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. There are 23.6 million adults and children in the US that have diabetes. Unfortunately, there are also 5.7 million people that are unaware that they are suffering from the diease. There are four major types of diabetes; Type 1, Type 2, Gestational and pre-diabetes. Diabetes often goes undiagnosed because of it's seemingly harmless symptoms which include frequent urination, excessive thirst, extreme hunger, excessive weight loss, increased fatigue, irritability and blurry vision. What can you do to fight back against this disease? Become informed. There is a wealth of information on the web. For information about the different types of diabetes, and how to test for the disease, visit www.diabetes.org. One in four people are living with this disease undiagnosed. Learn the facts and share them with others. You can show your support for the fight against diabetes by wearing and purchasing grey ribbon merchandise. YCC donates 25% of all grey ribbon merchandise sales to the American Diabetes Association; searching for a cure. You can learn more about the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org. |
